TUCSON, Ariz., Aug. 4, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — International Child Foundation became one of two U.S. adoption agencies awarded approval to provide adoption services in Mexico by Mexico’s National DIF (Office of Protection for Children and Families). Jackie Semar, Executive Director of International Child Foundation, says they are honored to have been chosen by Mexico as a nationally approved adoption agency. “This will definitely allow more families to adopt from Mexico.”
Mexico adoption has been in transition over the past couple years, as both Mexico and the United States are now members of the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption. This international agreement promotes ethical and transparent adoptions and aims to prevent child trafficking.
Ricardo Gallego, the agency’s Mexico attorney and Hague Convention expert states that the approval process took over eighteen months. “The National DIF conducts a thorough evaluation of agencies,” he states. “Adoptions from Mexico are subject to very strict standards designed to protect the best interests of children.”
The agency is able to serve families adopting relatives and families adopting orphaned children. “The process is the same,” states Ms. Semar, “and all families receive comprehensive information about the adoption process, requirements and costs, as well as ongoing guidance and support.”
